Brentwood School reports 63% of grades at the equivalent of A or A*, Becket Keys a record 14 students with three A*/A grades, and Anglo European a cohort taking four courses.

Sixth formers across Brentwood collected A level, BTEC and International Baccalaureate results on Thursday 13 August, and three schools in the borough have now published how their year groups did. Three more sixth forms had put nothing up when we checked on Friday 15 August.

Nationally, Ofqual issued 835,950 A level results in England on results day. Of those, 28.3 per cent were graded A or above and 78.1 per cent C or above. That is the yardstick to hold the school figures against, with the caveat below about comparing a fee-charging school with a comprehensive.

Brentwood School: 63 per cent at A or A*

Brentwood School on Ingrave Road runs three sixth form routes, A levels, the BTEC Extended Diploma in business, sport and creative media, and the IB Diploma. Combining all three, the independent school says 63 per cent of qualifications were awarded at the equivalent of A or A*, and 85 per cent at the equivalent it writes as “A-B*“. Fifty students achieved A*A*A or better across the three pathways.

The school also published where its leavers are going: nine to read law, 13 to study engineering and around 46 on degree courses related to economics, business and finance, with destinations including Cambridge, Warwick, the London School of Economics, Cornell, UCLA and McGill.

Director of Sixth Form Timothy Sellers said the school was “delighted to celebrate the exceptional achievements” of the year group. Headmaster Michael Bond said academic success “flows from consistent focus on holistic education”.

Brentwood School charges fees and selects its intake, so its grade profile is not comparable with a state comprehensive’s, and none of these numbers is a league table position. The Department for Education’s verified post-16 performance data for 2026, which includes progress measures, is published later in the academic year.

Becket Keys: a record 14 students with three or more top grades

Becket Keys Church of England School in Brentwood reported what it called a record breaking 14 students securing three or more grades at A* or A. It did not publish an overall grade profile, and led instead on destinations: 76 per cent of its students secured their first choice university and course, and nearly 40 per cent took places at 12 different Russell Group universities, among them Durham, Exeter, Loughborough, Warwick, Bath, Edinburgh and King’s College London. Others went to degree apprenticeships with employers including Amazon, the BBC and a solicitor apprenticeship at Dentons.

Head of Sixth Form Mrs Course said the results reflected “not only academic excellence, but also the resilience, commitment and character” of the year group. Headteacher Mr Scott-Evans said the results showed “the strength of our school community and the dedication of our staff”.

Anglo European School: breadth rather than a grade profile

Anglo European School at Willow Green in Ingatestone also published no percentage grade breakdown. The figure it chose to lead on was that 96 per cent of the cohort completed four or more courses this year, and that the majority of students carried a language through the sixth form, reflecting its international curriculum and its A level plus IB routes.

Its published destinations run from the London School of Economics, Manchester, Sheffield, St Andrews, Liverpool, Cardiff, Exeter, Nottingham and Durham to a degree apprenticeship at Grant Thornton and universities in Nantes and Toronto.

Still to publish

Shenfield High School, St Martin’s School in Hutton and Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School had not published 2026 sixth form results on their websites when we checked on the morning of Friday 15 August. We will add their figures when they appear.

One warning if you go looking yourself: several school results pages still carry last year’s figures under a current-looking heading, so check the year on any number you read before you compare it with anything.

What it means for you

If a grade looks wrong. Post-results services are run by the exam boards, but the school or college has to make the request on the student’s behalf, and written consent is needed first because grades can go down as well as up. The Joint Council for Qualifications sets the deadlines: priority reviews of marking for A levels, T levels and Level 3 vocational qualifications, the ones used when a university place depends on the outcome, must reach the awarding body by 20 August 2026. All other reviews of results, including standard reviews of marking, clerical re-checks and reviews of moderation, close on 24 September 2026. An appeal can only follow a review outcome, so the review comes first.

If you did not get the place you wanted. UCAS Clearing is open, and school and college careers staff are the fastest route to advice on it, on apprenticeship vacancies and on resitting.
